Patay Na Si Hesus: A Movie Review

I was never a fan of Filipino mainstream movies. I find it overrated, overhyped, and sometimes, it’s not worth my money. Sometimes, the plot and story lines are often overused. I’m this type of movie goer who overanalyzes every element of the movie (on rare occasions, however, I watch flicks that don’t need critical thinking). Since the advent of Filipino indie movies in the early 2000s, it had touched several subjects that were considered taboo in mainstream media. I have never seen a movie that is so funny, so poignant, and so insane in many levels. 

There are so many movies that portray the typical life of a Filipino family, but none of them portrayed it like Patay Na Si Hesus did.

Two Less Lonely People In The World

Love is definitely one of the most complex things in the world. Biochemistry may have an explanation about its nature and how our physical body reacts to it, but no one completely understands it until you finally experienced it. Sometimes, it comes into your life when you least expect it.

Kita Kita (I See You) is not your ordinary rom-com movie. It is not about the sappy kind of love that we always see on prime time TV. It is all about the love that we've always wished - kind and unconditional. Having Empoy Marquez and Alessandra de Rossi play the leading roles of this movie already set it apart from others. Their unusual pairing was effective that it made me laugh and cry in some parts of the flick. Empoy's ordinary looks and Alessandra's blindness clearly sends a message that genuine love just happens spontaneously. What matters most is your heart and not your physical looks. There's this invisible yet strong energy that drives two souls to meet at some point in their lives. Sometimes, it can be painful, but it is still the most beautiful thing to experience. After all, life is all about taking chances.

The shooting location (Sapporo, Japan) and KZ Tandingan's heartfelt rendition of Air Supply's 'Two Less Lonely People in the World' truly enhanced the overall mood of the movie. I have never seen a Pinoy rom-com movie that is so straightforward, sincere, and poignant.

Definitely a must-watch! This is one of my most favorite Pinoy movies, and I wouldn't mind watching this over and over again.

Crazy with Donuts and Pizzas

My grandmother usually spoil me with either donuts or pizzas when I was young. After school, she would always bring me to the nearest donut or pizza houses. I cry whenever she doesn't buy my favorite food. Spoiled brat!

These two are just one of my comfort foods. Nom nom nom! But just last Thursday, Go Nuts Donuts unveiled their newest meal - pizza donuts!

This story that I'm about to tell you happened when I was in sixth grade.

We were in the middle of the most solemn part of our recollection when Rica (not her real name) went outside to pee. When she was about to finish washing her hands, her guy classmate suddenly appeared at the door.

"Hey John (not his real name)! What are you doing here? This is not the male's comfort room, it's at the other side," my classmate cheered.

John didn't respond; he was just staring at her.

Rica thought John was just pulling a prank on her. "Huy, ikaw ha! 'Wag kang magbiro ng ganyan!"

Once again, John didn't give a response.

Rica poked his right shoulder. "Alis na nga ako, tinatakot mo lang ako."

When Rica went back to the conference room, he spotted John with his circle of friends. He seemed happy. She thought John was just joking.

She approached her and asked, "Ikaw ha! Tinatakot mo lang ako sa CR kanina!"

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"Diba, nandun ka kanina, 'di mo nga ako kinikibuan eh! Akala ko may galit ka sa akin!"

"Uhm, di ako lumabas kanina. I swear! I'm not lying!"

The two went silent.

The Many Faces of Iya Villania

Iya has been my favorite TV personality since high school (I always watch her segment on MYX). On screen, she exudes optimism and I am a bit curious what it feels like to be with her in person. Last Saturday (May 12), I was fortunate to be part of the Bioessence Gold press conference.
