2019 Eurovision Song Contest Blog Review

I've started watching Eurovision Song Contest since 2012 (thank you, Eurovision YouTube Channel for uploading the entire show). I was curious that time, and after watching Loreen's winning moment, it dawned on me that this show is a BIG DEAL in entire Europe! I mean, it's like Basketball and Miss Universe to the Philippines. Everyone country in Europe is hyped by it, and they have crazy fans as well. In a nutshell, the show is a song contest. Each song must not be more than three minutes, an original composition (but over the years, some songs were subjected to copyright infringement due to the striking resemblance of the chords and notes being used), and can be sung in English or their native language. Each country has the right to vote their favorites on a point system - 12 being the highest, and 1 being the lowest. The voting system was changed in 2016, where the viewers now have the chance to vote for their favorites, using the same point system. The country that has the highest points wins the competition and will have a chance to host this amazing show.

Over the years, it has been subjected to a lot of controversies, especially in European politics. But, let's not tackle that because it's none of our business, lol. This year, Israel will host the ESC 2019 at Tel Aviv. Weeks ago, Eurovision released the final 41 songs of the contest. I've originally planned to create a vlog about it but I don't have much time. Here's my blog reaction about the 41 finalists of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.

0:05 Albania - Reminds me of Croatia's entry last 2016. Not that spectacular.

0:27 Armenia - Slow ballad backed up with powerful vocals. Interesting, but it still lacks something.

0:53 Australia - Aussie is a new player here. Since 2015, it never failed to qualify to the final cut. Dami Im's Sound of Silence was their strongest contender yet. She almost won the contest until a new voting rule was implemented, allowing Ukraine to steal her limelight. For the last four years, they've been sending powerful ballads, but this year they tried to be different. Will this opera ballad entry have the chance to win this year's competition. Maybe yes, or maybe not. I want Dami Im!

1:15 Austria - Paenda's Limits has the potential to be on the finalist.

1:36 Azerbaijan - I guess the song has a similar vibe with Sweden's entry last year.

2:00 Belarus - Same old style. Thank you, next!

2:21 Belgium - This slow ballad sends a powerful message about being selfless. Will the message resonate to the grand finals? Not enough.

2:44 Croatia - Typical power ballad entry.

3:09 Cyprus - I love the tropical house vibe! But I am not sure if Europe digs this genre. I personally like it though.

3:31 Czech Republic - Fresh off the boat! It sounds like summer, me thinks.

3:55 Denmark - The song sounds like Lenka's hit. This song could have the potential to win the song competition. Problem is, it's the year 2019, and people are somehow got over with this cutie-patootie vibe.

4:20 Estonia - Fast-paced EDM song, but it sounded so familiar. A-hah! One Direction. Pffft.

4:39 Finland - Another boring EDM song.

5:00 France - I love it! Feels like Lady Gaga's doing a slow ballad.

5:23 Georgia - Why is Georgia keeps on sending this kind of song? I mean, c'mon. It's getting pathetic and predictable.

5:43 Germany - The song brings a great message but I am quite unsure if it's enough for the sibling love to propel this song to the ground finals.

6:05 Greece - The song's forgettable AF.

6:26 Hungary - Much like Ireland's entry last year. Better than Greece though.

6:49 Iceland - Nothing extraordinary. It doesn't spark joy.

7:12 Ireland - LOL I don't know where to begin with, but this is so cheesy.

7:31 Israel - Powerful ballad, powerful voice. Israel is getting serious with this game.

7:53 Italy - Is Mahmood Italy's Drake? I like the beat. So catchy.

8:14 Latvia - Okay, let's sleep.

8:33 Lithuania - I think the song has the chance to go to the grand finals, but definitely it won't win.

8:55 Malta - It's just your ordinary tropical house track.

9:15 Moldova - Why is Moldova keep on sending the same genre? But their entry this year is way better than last year.

9:40 Montenegro - Wow! Is this S Club 7? HAHAHAHA. Don't get me wrong, the song has the late 90s vibe.

10:00 North Macedonia - A song about woman empowerment. Good. But isn't it too overdramatic?

10:22 Norway - It's like listening to an old school EDM. Like... very old school.

10:44 Poland - It doesn't spark joy to me.

11:03 Portugal - Hypnotic and weird AF.

11:24 Romania - This sounds like a track from O2Jam HAHAHAHA OMG I miss playing that game.

11:47 Russia - OMG SERGEY FUCKING LAZAREV IS BACK... WITH A VENGEANCE. He represented Russia last 2016, and I was also rooting for him. If Dami Im can't win, I'm also okay with him being the winner. But no, he finished third all because of that stupid rule. Nonetheless, he's back with a powerful song that would score him high to the finals. Who knows? He might win this year. YAZZZZ PLZZZZZ

12:10 San Marino - Love the dance steps but not that great.

12:34 Serbia - Fireworks at the background, a powerful ballad with a powerful voice. And a horrible gown. Okay.

12:56 Slovenia - I kinda liked it.

13:14 Spain - The song kept me dancing for three minutes. I wished it had a slower rhythm.

13:36 Sweden - Sweden's a powerhouse of EAC. I won't get surprised if they're at the final five.

14:00 Switzerland - Wow! First Swiss entry since forever! I love the tempo! It reminds me of my drunk nights at Bali. HAHAHA LOL I hope it'll advance to the grand finals.

14:24 the Netherlands - Wait, what? Is that the Dutch entry? I am so disappointed.

14:44 United Kingdom - The song comes with a 'We Are The World' vibe. I like it!

Here's my top five:

1) Russia
2) United Kingdom
3) Sweden
4) Italy
5) Switzerland

Sorry, no Australia for me this year. What are your favorites?
