The US Elections 2020

The entire world is watching. It's a neck-to-neck battle between the incumbent President Trump and Joe Biden. This is the current electoral college map, Biden, with 238 votes, and Trump is trailing behind at 213 votes. Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin are all leaning towards Biden as they continue to count the mail-in votes. Nevada has six (6) electoral votes, while Michigan and Wisconsin have sixteen (16) and ten (10) electoral votes. The remaining states that are leaning towards Trump are Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina. These three states have 20, 16, and 15 electoral votes, respectively.

West Philippine Sea VS South China Sea

Yesterday, in a unanimous decision at The Hague, the Philippines won the arbitration case vs. China over South China Sea. Many rejoiced, thinking that we now finally own the whole Spratly Group of Islands. Or so they thought.

I have been following the conflict between China and the Philippines since 2012. This was after a Chinese vessel bullied the Filipino fishermen who were just doing their routine job within the EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone).  Same thing happened to Vietnamese and Indonesian fishermen.

Some key points before we proceed:

The EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) is defined as an area 200nm from the baseline. According to the international law, we can only claim sovereignty 12nm of the territorial waters from the baseline. Beyond 12nm, we only have sovereign rights and limited jurisdiction. Hence, our local laws are only limited to building artificial islands, maritime exploration and research, resource exploitation, and preservation of the marine ecosystem. No more, no less.

I just want to emphasize that the decision made by international court wasn't about awarding the whole South China Sea (or West Philippine Sea, as what the previous Aquino administration calls it) to the Philippines, but rather it is about condemning the atrocious behavior of the Chinese not just to the Philippines but also to neighboring countries who share the same EEZ (Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Indonesia).

Less than three weeks before the national elections. I am so tired of reading and hearing all those political nonsense and mudslinging from both staunch supporters and candidates. Well, I can't blame it. Social media had played a very important role in delivering vital information in this year's political campaign. But of course, you can't just avoid those hypocrites, know-it-alls, the pseudo-intellectuals, and the gullible ones. 

But despite our intellectual, socio-political, and ~*emotional*~ differences, we all have the same dream - whoever wins the election must put our country in a higher pedestal.

IN OTHER NEWS, air traffic congestion or flight delays have hit a all-time high! HURRAY! A few days ago, a reliable source told me that in NAIA 3 alone, 96% of all flights are delayed. The reason? Numerous non-scheduled flights were filed flying in and out of Manila. See also: hired private planes by politicians going to different provinces of the country.

Haters Gonna Hate

It's not surprising that the Duterte haters had risen from their graves a day after his announcement. Once and for all, can you do me a favor?

Look around you. Is your city safe, clean, and organized? How about your cab drivers? Do they choose their own passengers and charge more than what the meter shows because "trapik kasi sa EDSA"? Do you drink water directly from the tap, or do you still buy purified water from a water station? Does your city have a free 911 emergency service? If you haven't been to Davao, I urge you to book a flight and experience what the city has to offer, aside from the tourist attractions. Davao City is just one of his success stories.

If he was a dictator in Davao, my family would've migrated somewhere a long time ago. But no, it didn't happen because he wasn't. I just can't stand the fact that there are still people who support candidates that do not have a clear platform; just vague promises. Not to mention some of them are elitists and traditional politicians.

All About Politics

Let's get this straight, shall we?


Apparently, the quality of politics here in our country is very low. Numerous graft and corruption cases have been filed to several politicians - both local and national offices. Well, this is just common to our country for the past two decades. And it's already irritating to hear news about it. It's just depressing, you know.



The role of the leaders is to lead the country, help the oppressed, shelter the homeless and give all other necessities to the needy. But take note, this is just an idealistic idea, let go to a more realistic situation. Consider these two scenarios:

a) You have a great leader on a certain country. He had what it takes to be the best among the rest. He's gentle, good and caring. But the countrymen abused his power. They just depend on to them. This isn't a good scenario.

b) All of the people residing in a certain country are generally good, but the leaders aren't that good, not because they're stupid, but because they're ABUSING the role of being the leader of the country.

The 2010 Philippine National elections is already imminent due to the public exposures of the presidential-wannabes on the media. It was very irritating to see those TV personalities who are planning to enter politics. Don't get me wrong. This is a democratic country. BUT FIRST, LET US EVALUATE OUR OWN SELVES if we are REALLY CAPABLE of being the leader of the country. Being a leader of the country isn't a joke. Apparently, they should consider several things and several factors before deciding to be become a leader.



Basically, those beautifully written speeches of those candidates should be real. I mean, their projects and plans should be incorporated whenever they're on their respective seats. Those promises shouldn't remain on a clean substance 20 paper. It should be put into action.



This May 2010, I can already vote for the next leaders of our country. I know, there's still HOPE, despite those several depressing hopes. I still believe on it. But I don't believe in miracles. Hopes and miracles are different things.
