1/52

Five days after welcoming 2016, I still can't imagine how fast 2015 went. It felt like a cool breeze - temporary yet comforting. 2015 has been the most awesome year to date. I had traveled to places that I never imagined in my entire life that I'd set foot in. I never thought I'd visit Yogyakarta and be marveled by Borobodur and Prambanan Temples, endured the chaos and language barrier of Jakarta, got lost in the urban maze of Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore, appreciate the azure waters of Kota Kinabalu, and be amazed by the Petronas Towers as it stood high and proud in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

I do hope that the year 2016 will be like a wave that never breaks. As the song goes, nothing can stop us now.

November 25th

Isn't it redundant if I just name this blog post base on its published date? Me thinks it's more personal... and I'm too tired to write an appropriate title. Naming it as 'Untitled' is too mainstream in my opinion.

Anyway, I miss the old blogging days. Those were the days when one can just write lengthy posts yet people would still care to read and write comments. Those were the days when I met people online who share the same interests. Without blogging, I wouldn't have known a LOT of people. Blogging had truly expanded my network and made the world EVEN smaller than before. Today, the realm of blogging had changed. Blogging today had become too mainstream. Don't get me wrong, I am not against to it. It's really great that people have recognized how powerful blogging is when it comes to digital influence. However, most blogs these days are already event-centric and people blog JUST BECAUSE of events and other freebies. Oh well, I guess there's nothing permanent or constant in this world but change. Good thing is, some netizens have become more responsible in posting contents in social media.

***

Last week, I received a call from my brother's batch mate. She called me for an important blogging project in Davao... AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO MISS IT! I was really anxious these past few days because my senior told me that the shift schedule this December might change. I have already booked my flight to Davao (via Mactan-Cebu) and I don't want to pay for a rebooking fee should my schedule change. Good thing, it didn't except for some days of my shift, but it didn't really matter. As long as my day-off is still the same, it won't be a problem. Can't wait to be in Davao again next week!

***

So yeah, my 'Project Tuna' has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in the central office. All is well, except for one thing: I need a release letter from my current boss. Jeez. Now where should I start. Hmmmm.

***

The spirit of sportsmanship is in the air. We already had teams and yey I belong to the blue team! We even had our personal jerseys for free (yey thank you Smart #LiveMore). LOL. Today, I played table tennis and I represented our team. I won the game however it wasn't really my best Table Tennis 'moment'. The last time I played was... uhmm.. last April 2013. One a half years of NOT playing this sport. Worse, my thighs hurt a bit. After the game, I got really exhausted, to think I only played two sets. Whatever happened to my endurance. I guess I should start exercising. But when? How? And the more important question: WHY? HAHAHA. Kidding. Even in swimming, I noticed that I couldn't finish one lap... naging half lap nalang coz I easily get tired and exhausted. Sigh.

I may eat a LOT and still retain my scrawny figure, but I guess it's about time to MOVE and sweat a bit. I guess the only thing in my body that's doing so much work is my brain. Blame it to my job which requires intense brain activity, 40 hours a week (excluding over time).

***

Lastly, Christmas is just around the corner... but I never hear about our Christmas bonus. EHEM. Utang na loob!

Thank you, promo fares!

Just booked two round trip tickets to Cebu and Iloilo for only Php 2,800. That's right! You heard me, two fuckin' thousand and eight hundred pesos, all thanks to Cebu Pacific's promo fare.

So, I'll be at Cebu from Dec 12-15 (island hopping) and Iloilo (Dinagyang Festival) from Jan 19-23, 2012. This is going to be fun!

Brenna, Ivan and I are starting to plan for our Cebu trip. We plan to invade Moalboal, Bantayan and Malapascua Islands. So I should bring my  fedora hat for sun protection and also my Coppertone sunscreen.

Also, I am thinking of the possibility to cliffdive at Malapascua. I have already tried that at Tinago Falls last Feb 2010, of course with a life jacket. In Malapascua, you only wear your fancy swimwear (of course). The Tinago experience was a 15-20 ft dive. Malapascua's a 50 ft dive and that's totally insane. I am not afraid of heights and I do have the balls to cliffdive but... but... it's just I do not trust my swimming skillzzz and cliffdiving would surely hurt my balls. Hell I just know how to float and to swim like a dog. No, I won't take it; my life would be at risk ye know.

In other news, I'm hoping that I'll win AirPhil Express' contest. I wanna experience MassKara Festival this October!

And as for my September, well, I'm planning to spend it with my fellow Davao bloggers (so excited with our movie night at Kuya Drew's mansion), food trip with friends and concentrate with my blogging business.

I can now smell the spirit of Christmas. Wow.

Five Pinoy Expressions

Expression has been a part of every one’s life. Imagine life without expressions. A simple sting of the bee can be attributed by a simple “Ouch!” Life would be more complicated if one says, “Oh no, I have been stung by a bee!” See the differences? Whether if it’s used in excitement or profanity, expressions enhance emotions to certain situations. Here are the five frequently used Pinoy expressions.

Number 5. “Duh…WHATEVER”

Man says fuck while girls say WHATEVER. This is a common expression used either when one finds a joke to be corny or when one finds a situation nonsense.

Example:

Boy: Huy, may joke ako… sino ang papa ni Majin Boo?
Girl: Sino?
Boy: Edi si… PATRICK STAR! AHOOHOOHOOHOO!
Girl: Err, duh, Whatever…

Number 4. “Benta!!!”

This expression is used when one finds a joke to be extremely funny.

Example: Dude, nakita mo yung parody ni Nanay Dionesia sa Banana Split? Potek BENTA nyun!

Number 3. “Sabaw!”

Sabaw is commonly used in school particularly after an exam or when one is deprived from sleep.

Example:
“Shet, nasasabaw na utak ko, lintik na Philo long exam na yan”.

Number 2. “Pag sure oi”

This expression is very popular on Cebu, Davao and other places that speak the Visayan dialect. In English, it literally means, “please be sure about it”. I don’t know the origin of this context but I’m pretty sure that this expression is very popular.

Example:

Dodong: “Huuy ‘day, kalibangon baya ko!!!”
Inday: “Pag sure oi!!!”

Number 1. “Putang Ina/ ‘Tang Ina/ ‘Tang Ina mo rin!”

The ultimate pinoy expression. It is originally used when someone’s extremely angry or frustrated. But somehow, it became a part of every Pinoy’s situation. It can be used to different situations ranging from extreme joy to extreme madness.

Examples:

(Extreme Joy)
‘Tang ina dude!!! PASA AKO SA BIOCHEM!!! WOOHOO!

(Anger)
‘Tang ina pare, layuan mo misis ko kundi, papatayin kita!!! (Parang teleserye lang naman)

(normal conversation)
Oh c’mon, baha nanaman sa Espanya… ‘Tang ina.

Or better yet, it can be used as an MMDA sign:

TEEHEE! :))

School of Rock

Are you anxious because school is imminent?

Do you ask this question often: “Why May does feel like SUNDAY?”

Well, you have this syndrome called SiNS or School-is-Near Syndrome.

Every year, we spend ten grueling months of studying, getting sleep deprivations and ugly faces. C’mon, we always look forward for a summer or semestral break a week before the final examinations. We just hope that we could skip the exams and embrace the much-awaited break wholeheartedly, or not. There are reasons why school rocks and we should be thankful because not all of us had this opportunity to study. Here are some:

Number one. Kung walang knowledge, walang power.
School isn’t just a bunch of buildings with teachers who just teach students for the sake of earning. No, we must not forget that the school is an institution which governs us by teaching not just on academics but on our behavior as well. Everyone has the right to have an access to education.

Number two. Puppy Love. Admit it.
You just want to go to school because you just want to see your ultimate crush. Period. It will make your day complete.

Number three. Money, money, money!
Summer break’s cool because you are free from dealing with those crappy laboratory written reports, surprise long exams and the terrifying faces of your professors. But despite the freedom, you are broke, unless you have a summer job or things that will help you earn big time during your break. School may suck, but it makes you save a lot of money and buy your favorite things at store.

Number four. Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!
Isn’t it exciting when you get to bond with your closest friends in school? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, your baby brother almost ruined your Twilight books. You and your friends in school share common interests, talk as if there’s no tomorrow, backbite those grumpy old professors together and even sleep together during a dull lecture about your professor’s oh-so wonderful college life.

Number five. Status: Busy.
Studies have shown that one had a great tendency to develop short-term memory since the brain isn’t getting enough mental exercise. Not all of us like answering IQ tests, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku on a daily basis. Reading books and listening to your favorite genre of music isn’t enough. Challenge your brain and it will challenge you too. Just remember that too much “brainiac” activity is bad to one’s health. It will make you crazy, literally.

Number six. What goes around comes around.
When you’re in school, you always get new adventures and thus life in school isn’t bound on a cycle, unlike on summer breaks. You do the same things over and over again. At least school won’t bore you to death.

Number seven. School is the best diet pills.
Yep, with all those accumulated stress, school won’t make you fat, even if you have eaten the whole planet. This is the best diet plan that ever existed in this lone planet. Hahaha!

And the last but not the least:

Number eight. Life’s like that.
Everyday we encounter different types of teachers, but in the end, they want us to learn not just from the books and presentations that they have taught us, but also they want us to grow and show progress in life.

So you think school sucks? Think again.

15 Things to Muse With

There are things that keep on bothering me; well at least something’s bothering me. At last.

One. Birds of a same feather flock together – so as losers.

Two. He, who keeps on muttering bad things about someone, even if that someone didn’t do anything, is guilty and jealous.

Three. I am now officially obsessed with Angels and Demons. For crying out loud, I’m not obsessed with Ayelet Zurer. It’s just I find the movie fantastic though the book is better than the movie. But it didn’t bore me to death, compared to Da Vinci Code. Lousy script. At least it was compromised by Hans Zimmer’s creativity. My fascination with Modern Physics has now returned. Yey!

Four. If I win a million bucks, the first two things that I would purchase are grand piano and a Roland Fantom Keyboard.

Five. The summer season had ended too early. The rainy season should start on the month of June, but I guess the predictions of Al Gore were starting to show up. Freaky.

Six. I haven’t gone to the beach this summer. What a bummer. Wait, I have GONE to the beach actually, last April but it was somehow to my thesis. Still, it’s a nerve-wracking but enjoyable activity with my adviser and her funky research team. Haha.

Seven. When I was child, I often see those protests about the election anomalies on TV and I find them to be violent and their acts were inhumane. Now I understand why they have to do such violent things, because in the first place, those corrupt officials have just functioned as the catalyst of our nation’s despotism. Waiting for our turn to vote under the sweltering heat of the sun plus the forever chaotic voting precincts is not a joke. And changing our votes is not funny. In our own vernacular tongue, ang pagboto, dile na siya pa-char-char ra. Yawa mo.

Eight. At long last, I have a good standing in my school. I need not to worry with my singko. Duh.

Nine. I need to buy another novel and this time it should be a Robert Ludlum book. I don’t like it when I read the book so fast. Err.

Ten. If your laptop’s motherboard gets busted, don’t bother of buying a brand new motherboard. Buy a brand new laptop instead.

Eleven. I think I should broaden my knowledge on web designing. Earning thirty thousand bucks per website is cool.

Twelve. The existence of ‘impossible’ is impossible. There’s no such thing as impossible. It’s just people aren’t focused or determined to reach their goals in life.

Thirteen. I feel sleepy and lazy whenever it rains. The cold weather stimulates my mind.

Fourteen. I missed flying kites and riding a bicycle. When I was young I used to fly kites together with my grandfather and today the two tires of my bike were all flat and useless. Sheesh. I’m so lazy to repair it.

Fifteen. This isn’t a tag.

Juliet, Juliet, where the hell are you?!

"Hula-hula" Hoops

Dr. ETRJr’s advisees aka RASCO BABIES (with a superscript TM on it) are really fond of doing entertaining stuffs. Yeah, every one in the class goes gaga to the iniquitous palm reading. Aiai together with her fellow ETR Babies are now experts on this paranormal field. They even had a book on it. So the long line of engrossed clients (hey that’s us! Lol) patiently waits for their turn. Madam Aiai also had this patience on reading and interpreting those lines in your palm. Questions like the future, number of children, work, leisure, love and success are some common things that were being asked and interpreted by the palm reader. Indeed, according to the book, our destiny lies in our palms.

Well, almost all of us were astonished by the coincidence of Madam Aiai’s interpretation. But yeah, this is just a form of pure entertainment since we find ways to entertain ourselves. You see, we’re always prone to boredom since the nearest mall is at least one hour and the fare is quite expensive. Being stuck in a prestigious academic institution situated in the outskirts of city is like when a prisoner or worse slave in the Medieval Times locked in a high fortress. We find ways to entertain ourselves, at least.

But yeah, while doing entertaining things (aside from Videoke, house parties and etc) like this one makes me remember an episode on a late night documentary show about a year ago. It tackled about a young woman who is very dependent on a soothsayer’s false verdicts and predictions. She tried palm reading, tarot card reading and other fortune-telling jobs in the sidewalk just to have a knowledge on what will “actually” happen in her life in the next few years, or maybe in the next few hours. It may sound horrendous but she was desperate at that time and all she wanted at that time was to have a stable job, strong family ties and of course, money. It seems to be a dim-witted idea to spend almost a thousand bucks just to have your destiny to be checked by those soothsayers when you can actually spend your money on to more important things like bills, food and water and education. Or better yet, she may opt to save the money instead and invest it to promising business or other small time franchises. Ideally, the general population of Filipinos tends to be carried away by those convincing interpretations of those fortune-tellers.

The greatest paradox was when the reporter asked the fortune-tellers if they can predict their own destiny.

The verdict: They can’t predict their own future. PERIOD.

Above all, the reason why they still delve with this kind of job is that they don’t have a choice. Interpreting one’s destiny would probably be sufficed to fill their children’s stomach of at least on a daily basis (one meal per day).

I don’t hold grudges to fortune-tellers, as long as they don’t create harm or mayhem to the society. They’re practically harmless.

But depending to the results and interpretations of these harmless mystics would be a harmful decision.

The destiny is in our palms, yes, THAT IS if we work for it. Perseverance and patience are prerequisites to a successful life.

Divine Intervention won’t intervene unless if you do something worthy and not appalling.

No, palm reading is fun actually. HAHAHA. LOL :))

PS: Aiai! Read my palm again. My right hand was dirty at that time, that’s why my future you’ve predicted was also dirty. LOL. Just kidding!

One Click to Fame

I’m a little bit bothered with celebrities changing their relationship status so rapid, like a parent who constantly changes his baby’s diaper. Take Rachel Ann Go’s case. She changed her relationship status from “in a relationship” to “engaged”. After a day or two, it spawned more than a hundred comments. And yeah, when she was interviewed by a local entertainment show, she denied it since she didn’t have an engagement ring.

Okay. But what if she hid the “ring” in one of her pockets? Or is she hiding it in one of her hands during the interview? Naaah. She’s not Houdini or David Blaine. And the hell I care, I’m not a big fan of her though.

And then when I checked my Facebook a while ago, I came across with Van Pojas’ update (PDA Season II). He changed his relationship from “it’s complicated” to “married”. The funny thing was, almost all people believed it! Hahaha. But yeah, maybe he wants to insinuate that he has a new girl or what. But yeah, changing it to “married” is not a cute thing unless if it’s genuine (or was it??! Naaah).

But yeah, this is just one of the forms of tactical fan maneuver. Posting something that is quite interesting and/or controversial would lead to more viewers, more fans, more stalkers, more detractors and the list goes on and on and on. I admit that sometimes I add some celebrities in my Facebook just to have this formerly rare opportunity to view their life outside the idiot box. Thanks to the internet. Hahaha.

Celebrities who desire to generate more fans are now at ease – one click is already enough.

So what if I change my relationship status from “single” to “married to Mama Mary”? Will that generate millions of comments? One thing for sure, a conservative-puritan-practitioner old lady will complain about my blasphemous status. CRUCIFY HIM! CRUCIFY HIM! CRUCIFY HIM!

Okay, I don’t have plans of doing that thing. Hahaha. I actually don’t care with my Facebook account. I just accept invites from people. And yeah, my page is boring, as usual. Lol. I play no-nonsense applications like Pet Society, How Big is Your Brain and Geo Challenge. :)

I really enjoyed Christine’s aka Happyslip’s Vlog about Facebook. Check this out!

Fame is Ostensible: People of the Year Awards

Roar! Oink-oink! 2009 is imminent and I don’t know the natural cry of Ox. But that’s not my concern, for crying out loud.

After the semi-boring revelation of how wonderful my year was, it’s now time to unveil top five people who made their way to eminence in the cyberworld!

As you can see, gaining fame in the cyberworld is relatively easier than in the real world. In reality, you have to get drunk in front of the itchy paparazzi, shave your blond hair ‘til you’re bald without any valid reasons or by not wearing panties in a social gathering just to attract attention. Nah, just kidding! What I’m trying to imply is this: getting the attention of multitude is hard due to emotion. But in the cyber realm, one must not evoke real emotion, for crying out loud. Like for any instances, smileys are good examples. I can put a happy smiley without smiling at all! I can type Lol (laughing out loud) without laughing my ass off. You can evoke anger by typing in all-caps. That’s simple, isn’t it?

So let’s start with the list, a special list of people that made and even meddled their way to fame.

---

Number Five. Posers and Rippers

Friendster is one of the social network sites that are susceptible to posers. A poser is a person who disguises himself, say as an infamous actor. He may post a primary picture of a certain celebrity and just write something that is superficial and sometimes waywardly fictitious. Some people would think that the celebrity profile is genuine and would even request a meet up or what not. But hey, the information can be easily changed and altered. Sometimes it can be that hard to determine whether if the alleged profile is true or not.

Rippers are different. They just rip one’s artwork and claim it’s their work. Bullcrap is the best word to describe them.

The real deal: I can’t surmise the real agenda of posing as a celebrity. I think this is pure obsession and boy, it is dangerous as hell. You be the judge of a ripper’s subsistence.

Number Four. Harriette the PolSci Freshie

Apparently, she’s just your ordinary freshman who embarked on a new adventure in Diliman until one day, she wrote a blog entry on UP’s official multiply site (http://yoopee.multiply.com) and posted something about the current conditions of the nation and her stand for it. But actually, it created an instant mayhem on that certain blog entry. In just a few hours, it generated more than 600 comments. It is likewise OKAY to express your opinions about the current situation of our country. But I construe her points were off and inane. Hundreds of flaming comments and other ‘curse’ words flooded the page and the entry was somehow republished and began circulating to different social networking and forum sites.

Where can you find her: Her life is at stake since July. Snipers are out there waiting for her. Nonetheless, she underwent series major plastic surgeries just to change her physical features. One thing for sure, her name’s not Harriette anymore. KIDDING! Hahaha.

Number Three. Ekakawaii, UP’s shabby detractor.

Every UPian would surely remember her, at least. My classmate gave me the link of her site (which was already unavailable due to some reasons). The entry was really appalling for she detested UP for these reasons: The comparison of UP and UST’s grading system which she claimed that UP’s not fair and should follow UST’s standard. Also, in another entry, her hatred in UP had grown exponentially for she didn’t pass the application of her admission in the said school. She was really disappointed and even blamed the person in charge to be cruel because she was lambasted on her interview. Take note, she even claimed that she committed flaws in her grammar during the interview. She asserted that grammar isn’t important since she was nervous at that time. Lots of VIOLENT reactions flocked on her entry. Even some Thomasians were aghast by her bigotry. There were some comments who just criticized her grammar. I pity the feeble detractor. She didn’t even know the people she’s facing. After a month, she cancelled her account for good.

Ekakawaii’s motto in life: I wants to be a successful fashion designers and I will never love UP. They’re such a losser. Ooops.

Number Two. Princess Tracy and the Aetas

Ateneo is a Catholic institution and encourages the community to be sensitive to the less fortunate brothers and sisters and thus requires students to attend the immersion program. And here comes Princess Tracy, who keeps on ranting about the untidiness of the indigenous tribe. The primary goal of her entry was sheer derision and cynical entertainment. She thought it was funny and assumed that some of her friends would liked it too. But lo and behold, Spiderpig came and treachery made her way to fame. Funny thing was the infamous Pablo Banila even blogged about his reaction to Princess Tracy’s entry. In a forum, she had made an apology and was still ‘recuperating’ from the ‘trauma’ she had experienced.

What her Psychiatrist said: “She will be forever haunted by those pygmy people. At one time she may be eaten by them. Sometimes, she would dream that she’s already one of them. This rare psychiatric behavior will continue until she’s 90 OR if she’ll develop Alzheimer’s disease. She’ll get used to it and she’ll be fine after three days.”

Number One. Pablo Banila, the man behind the never-ending Guestbook party

One day, you opened your multiply or friendster account. You have decided to view the viewing history. All of the sudden, you were glued on an animated avatar. You waited for the animation to finish. You felt alarmed after reading and realizing the message of the avatar: Pablo Banila has a crush on you, that’s why he viewed your account! Cutenun! Lololol. But wait, you clicked on his site and were stunned by his sheer wit. But you find him weird and have logged out from your network. The next day was worse. You checked your viewing history and you’re shocked upon seeing his infamous avatar, again and this time, they’re five of them.

Pablo Banila indeed became famous because of his guestbook party. People thought he’s a stalker, a virus, or just a psychological experiment. People have read his blogs and somehow noted his insane! Apparently, he’s not harmful. He’s just fond of viewing your site on a daily basis, with different accounts. That’s it. But curiosity reigned on Juan’s subconscious thoughts and decided to search for his true identity. Nonetheless, Pablo Banila was but a fabricated character of the cyberworld.

Pablo Banila or Paolo Bantolo in real life became an instant celebrity. He was featured in numerous blogs and he even made it to the mainstream! He was even interviewed twice or thrice in Philippine Daily Inquirer and there he confessed and clarified his stand. Apparently, the guestbook party was indeed made possible by a program similar to search engine sites like Google. It can open millions of websites in just a few minutes.

Today, the guestbook party had finally receded but the legacy of Pablo Banila still continues up to this time.

President GMA’s reaction on Pablo Banila’s never-ending guestbook party: He’s onehelluvah intelligent motherfucker! I love you Pablo! Lololol. Noh? Hmmm?

---

These people may have touched fame unintentionally (except of Pablo Banila’s case).

Above all, this serves as an important lesson to us. We should be more careful on posting things in the cyberworld. We never know, the realm of internet in uncontrollable and as of this moment, no country has implemented serious protocols on the internet. Everyone reserves a space and right in the internet.

“Be careful that what you write does not offend anybody or cause problems within the company. The safest approach is to remove all useful information.”

--Scott Adams.

Wait... I think Pablo Banila shares his triumph on to this list. He used to rule the world. Seas would rise if he gave a word. Now in the morning he sleeps alone, and sweeps the street that he used to own.

You know him? It’s me. HAHAHAAHHA. Just kidding guys. :))

So who will be the next five people on the list? Let’s find out on the third week of December, 2009.

Cheers for the wonderful year.
Let’s welcome 2009 with a blast!
